LESSON 3

Students will conduct research on examples of environmental sustainability initiatives and share.

Students will continue to brainstorm their idea for their project.

Students will understand:

-  Various ways in which other bodies have contributed to environmental sustainability

Jigsaw Environmental Sustainability Projects

-  Teacher will provide students with resources to find different environmental sustainability projects. Students will work individually or in pairs to research the project and share the project with their group. (e.g. https://talkaep.alberta.ca/climate-and-environment-student-action-challenge)

- Grade 7 students will be asked to research a project that has to do with heat and temperature, Grade 8 students will be asked to research a project that has to do with mechanical systems or freshwater and saltwater systems, and Grade 9 students will be asked to research a project that has to do with biological diversity, environmental chemistry or electrical principles and technologies.

Brainstorm Project

-  Students will continue to brainstorm potential ideas for environmental sustainability project including completing research on potential feasibility

LESSON 4

Students will receive peer feedback for a an initial idea for their project.

Students will understand:

-  The engineering design process

Engineering Design Process Mini-Lesson

Teacher will provide instruction on the engineering design process.

Brainstorm and peer feedback

-  Students will continue to brainstorm potential ideas for environmental sustainability project, including completing research on potential feasibility

-  Students will discuss their initial idea with peers for feedback and will give feedback

-  Students will revise and expand/contract their idea based on feedback
