ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Designing Learning for Today’s World
Sustainability is important for a very simple, straight forward reason. We are a part of our world's ecosystems and promoting a sustainable way of living is necessary for healthy and engaged communities.
This is how our school is working towards building a better future.

ESSENTIAL QUESTION
How can we contribute to environmental sustainability?
As noted by the Education for Sustainable Development Working Group of the Council of Ministers of Education Canada (2010), the challenge of sustainable development is an unprecedented one and to meet that challenge, it requires that “a whole generation will need to be engaged to think and act in a way that enables responsible choices about our economies, our societies and the environment” (p.3).
To build the skills and competencies of this next generation, we have designed a unit plan that falls in line with the Alberta 21st century competencies of critical thinking, problem solving, managing information, creativity and innovation, communication, collaboration, cultural and global citizenship and personal growth and well-being (Alberta Education, 2011).
