FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT
Formative assessment is used to provide students feedback to take next steps, let students know the learning goals and help teachers adjust instruction as needed. The formative feedback used in this course are included in the unit plan and include:
Informal Observation: teachers will walk around as students are working on their projects and will ask them questions, provide them with resources, and guide group collaboration.
Weekly Student-Teacher Conferencing: student teams will have formal meetings with a teacher every week in order to discuss where they are with the project, what support they need, and to help students understand how to self-assess themselves against the rubrics.
Peer Feedback: peer feedback helps students see their work more objectively through the eyes of a peer (Friesen, 2009), therefore, it is used twice in this unit in order to provide students practice giving and receiving feedback and to improve their final product.
Self-assessment Against Rubric: Students will be provided the summative rubrics so that they are able to self-assess and understand where they need to make progress.
